GUIDED BY ARILD HEITMANN & EMMA SVENSSON
We meet 09:00 in Chamonix for a meet & greet and information. After a gear check and some time to rent gear for those who need it we head up with the lift to Flegere for a Via Ferrata. A Via Ferrata is climbing attached to a steal wire in the mountain with holds and steps to help you. It´s a safe and fun way to climb.
After the Via Ferrata we hike to Lac Blanc for sunset photography.
We stay in a mountain hut over night at 2300 m altitude.
Dinner is included.
We start off by shooting sunset at Lac Blanc before breakfast. Then we do a scenic hike back to Chamonix beforetaking the lift up to Aiguille du Midi. We are staying in a mountain hut and will do processing and photo talks in the hut. Sunset shoot at Lac Bleu. Dinner and breakfast is included.
After breakfast we hike back down to Chamonix to meet our mountain guides. Together we drive to Italy for the start of our climb of three 4000 meter mountains.
After a lunch in Italy we hike up to the Ayas Rifugio, a hike that takes about 4 hours and will be our base the next days. We hike through a beautiful valley. The Ayas Rifugio is located just at the bottom of the glacier at 3400 m altitude.
Breakfast and dinner is included.
We have a early breakfast in the mountain hut 04:00 and after that our mountain guides will have a alpine course on the glacier and we will climb the first mountain – Castor 4228 m. A steep but non technical climb on glacier and snow takes you to amazing views over the Monte Rosa massif.
We will be back in the hut around lunch and in the afternoon Arild & Emma will have photography workshops in the hut.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.
Once again we are having an alpine start of the day and breakfast 04:00. Today our goal is to summit Pollux 4092 m – a more technical mountain with a steep approach, some scrambling and two pitches of climbing with fixed ropes. Next level in alpine climbing.
We will be back in the mountain hut around lunch and in the afternoon there will be more photography workshops.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.
One more alpine start and breakfast 04:00 before climbing Breithorn 4164 m. From here our mountain guides will take us to the lift of Klein Matterhorn and say goodbye. We will take the lift down to Zermatt and the train up to Gronergrat where the views are amazing. Here we stay at a hotel over night for best possible access for locations for sunset and sunrise photography.
Breakfast is included.
We wake up early for sunrise photography over Matterhorn. After the photo session we have breakfast at the hotel and take the train back down to Zermatt were we end the tour and you can continue your travel on your own.
Breakfast is included.
All the gear you rented will be taken back to Chamonix by Emma & Arild.
What level of fitness and experience is requierd?
You should be able to hike 6 hours per day with a daypack. So you need to do regular training for this if you want to have a chance of reaching the summits. We will help you out with a training plan if you want.
Experience in hiking is good but you don´t need any experience in climbing. Our guides will teach you.
You will be walking on glaciers and steep terrain. There will be some exposure during the climbs but you will always be secured with a rope by the mountain guides.
What gear do I need?
Hiking clothes like base layer, gore-tex and a thin down jacket. Gloves, hat and warm socks. 30-40L backpack and headlamp. Mountianeering boots that fit crampons, poles, helmet, harness and ice axe. You can rent the climbing gear you don´t have in Chamonix (we will return it for you).
For camera you want to go as light as possible because you have to carry it while climbing. Emma use one camera body with a 24-105 mm lens in the mountains and her phone.
Will I get altitude sickness?
It´s possible to feel the altitude when you climb 4000 meter mountains. We will acclimatize by sleeping in mountains huts at different altitude before the climbs. But common symptoms is headache, illness, loss of appetite and feeling tired (hard to sleep). Usually the symptoms goes away with some paracetamol but if not you must go down to lower altitude again. Keep an open and honest conversation with your mountain guides about how you are feeling.
