This is an incredible opportunity to explore perhaps the finest woodland in Scandinavia as well as the most amazing coastal area in Sweden, guided by the Swedish master Hans Strand together with Arild Heitmann & Stian Klo.
Days 1 – 4
We meet in Copenhagen in Denmark before driving 1 hr north into Sweden and the magical Söderåsen National Park. This place will be our playground for the first 4 days.
Söderåsen National Park is simply a haven for photographers. It is a 3 km long, 100m deep ravine flanked by a lush beech forest. In the bottom of the ravine there is a wonderful creek that adds complexity and variety to the landscape with small waterfalls and pools that reflects the surrounding vegetation. In the first week of November the autumn colors are peaking and what earlier was green is now glowing in orange. Often the days start with a mist that fades the backgrounds and adds a mysterious component to your images. During these first days of November there are potential images almost in any direction you point your camera. It is also easy to get around in the park, which allows you to spend all your energy on making great photographs.
Hans Strand has photographed this area for decades and knows this place better than anyone. We will focus on teaching you the art of photographing complex woodland scenes, making order out of chaos. In short, getting a deeper understanding of how to photograph woodlands. This is something that you can take with you back to wherever you are based. Woodlands are present in most places around the globe, in one form or another, so the knowledge gained on this workshop will certainly be useful for numerous locations around the world.
Day 5 & 6
The west coast of SkåneOn the final 2 days of the trip we will photograph Kullen and Hovs Hallar, perhaps the most dramatic part of the Swedish coast. Its special feature is the red granite cliffs dropping straight into the ocean. Large waves comes rolling in from Kattegat. The force of the ocean combined with the dramatic rock formations creates the perfect setup for making incredible coastal imagery. We will spend 1 whole day in each of the locations.
